London Road

1/2

London Road

These proposals would involve introducing segregated cycle tracks in both directions on London Road. This would be facilitated by removing central hatching, turning pockets and in some places reducing the number of traffic lanes and changing parking arrangements.

On London Road, footways would be widened and pedestrian refuges converted into signalised pedestrian crossings. Speed limits would also be reduced to 30mph and reduced further to 20mph outside schools.

Larger junctions would be redesigned to separate cycles from turning traffic using traffic lights. Pedestrian crossings at these junctions will also be simplified where possible, to allow crossing in a single stage. At smaller junctions the kerb would be built-out to reduce crossing distances and slow turning vehicles.
