These proposals would involve creating a quietway cycle route between Shinfield and Spencers Wood. This would utilise either the existing bus/cycle only link on Bolton Drive or an alternative off-road route. Both routes would see lighting, signage and surface improvements. The speed limit on a short section of Church Lane and Hyde End Lane would be reduced to 20 mph.
At smaller junctions the kerbs would be built-out to reduce crossing distances and slow turning vehicles. The Church Lane / Hollow Lane junction would be redesigned to separate cycles from turning traffic using traffic lights or a roundabout with a segregated cycle track.
